You need brand pictures that positively shine! This is your chance to reach new clients and show them why they need to partner with you. So, when you need to plan your session, the first thing you need to decide is the setting. If you could use some help figuring out whether you are going to take indoor or outdoor branding photos, I’m here to give you some advice. As a Phoenix branding photographer, I love working with clients to give them the best photos possible. Here is what you need to consider!

The very first thing you need to consider is the weather. Here in Phoenix, we’re pretty lucky in some regards because the likelihood of your session getting rained out is minimal. At the same time, you have to deal with the relentless heat throughout the summer. My advice? If you plan on taking photos throughout the warmer months, keep them indoors. No one wants to get back their professional photos only to realize they look like a sweaty mess.

When it comes to the lighting, it really just depends on what you are going for. If you choose to have indoor photos, you can opt for a studio complete with professional lighting. This lets you control every little facet as you show off your good side! Some of my clients choose to have their sessions in settings like bookshops or coffee shops. With this option, you lose a lot of that fine-tuned control, but you can still find well-lit spaces with tons of large windows. If you would prefer outdoor pics, you will normally get softer, natural lighting. Just know this requires expert timing to avoid the harsh Phoenix rays.

Before you plan your pics, you really need to understand your brand identity. After all, you are choosing how your potential clients will view you, and your setting can have a large role in their perception. With indoor branding photos, you can be a bit more professional and choose spaces highly curated, like your office, which can’t happen outdoors. This will also allow clients to see what goes on behind the scenes. On the other hand, you have the freedom to move around and seem a bit more relaxed. It can make you seem more approachable.

Lastly, think about where the photos are getting used. If you are looking for brand photos that look polished (think LinkedIn headshots), indoor is usually the best. If you need them for more casual purposes, such as social media posts or website pics, the outdoors can be great!

If you have been considering whether to plan indoor or outdoor branding photos, I really hope this post helps you out! No matter what you choose, I just know you’re going to have photos you love.
